STREET NAME EXPLANATION SARPHATIKADE
Samuel Sarphati (1813-1866), was an Amsterdam doctor and pharmacist. He had many contacts in banker’s circles. He initiated the Vereeniging voor Volksvlijt (Society for Popular Diligence (1852)), which also built the Paleis voor Volksvlijt (Palace for Popular Diligence (1864)). Sarphati was also involved in the urban expansion around the Frederiksplein and the construction of the Amstel Hotel (1866).
The apartment is beautifully located at the corner of the Sarphatikade and the Amstel.
It is located in the ring of canals, near the Prinsengracht, Utrechtsestraat, the Amstel hotel, Theatre Carré and the Albert Cuypmarkt, but it is also in the vicinity of the Museumplein and the Stopera theatre. Because of its central location in the centre there are many possibilities for dining, going to cinemas and museums and other activities.
The green low-traffic section of the city starts nearby along the Amstel to the surrounding polder area and the rural village of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. Many cyclists, walkers and runners make use of this.
By car the A10 Ring can be reached within a few minutes, which means that Schiphol and other cities in the Randstad are very well accessible. Parking takes place with a parking permit. Since there is only local traffic, it is a quiet location and parking can easily be done in front of your door.
A CHARACTERISTIC HOUSE
Sarphatikade 19 was built in 1899, in the late 19th-century style, with a richly decorated middle section in the facade. It was intended for wealthy citizens and used for a long time as a doctor’s house.
Many original details have been preserved. The antique oak front door, marble hall and high ceilings (3.40m). The beautiful stairwell with a ‘lazy’ stairway. The antique oak ‘herringbone walnut’ parquet. The richly decorated fireplace. The old doorknobs, original wooden panelling and profiles doors and frames.
Because of the high windows it is a very light house, which stays cool in summer. The stairwell also gets much daylight from a skylight that has been placed on the roof. The ‘loft’ on the third floor also has a large ‘skylight’
All floors have an own doorbell/videophone/door-open unit.
The balcony at the front has a view on the Singelgracht and the Amstel. At the back there is a large sheltered terrace of 15 m², which overlooks a closed, quiet and green courtyard. There are monumental trees in which many songbirds nest, including the jay, wren, woodpecker, great tit, blue tit, blackbird, sparrow, magpie and parakeet.
The very beautiful fireplace in the living room has an antique wood stove, which belongs to the house. It does not cause any nuisance for the neighbours. The chimney has recently been swept. A gas pipeline has been fitted, and if required it is possible to connect a gas fireplace to this.
There is a toilet on each floor with a sink with mixing tap. On the second and third floor there is a complete bathroom with a bath.
The toilets, storage, bathrooms and kitchen are connected to the mechanical ventilation with an exhaust to the roof. Cooking odours are also discharged through an extra extractor in the kitchen.
The apartment has a high-quality sound insulation with double glass, retention walls and sound-proof SUS fan boxes on the street side.
